Definitions and samples

  • diverse (n.) various; showing a lot of differences within a group


- The diverse population directly results in the rich variety of languages heard.

  • corpse (n.) a dead body, usually of a person


- I did not hear the shot but I saw his uncovered corpse when the door was opened.

  • affront (n.) an insult


- But he did suggest that the play had caused some affront in the local community.

  • realistic (adj.) having to do with real life or with likely results


- Remember to be realistic about what can be achieved within the given time frame.

  • affable (adj.) friendly, personable, easy to get along with
